October updates

October was another busy month for the Nordic fintech and finance industry. We saw new developments across every category.

Funding
Not surprisingly, nearly every funding story involved AI. From Formalize’s AI-driven compliance platform to Nume AI CFO tool and Grasp’s multi-agent system, the theme was clear. Even Vendy’s automated buyback station and Vilja’s new AI development center in Kuala Lumpur highlighted how AI continues to drive the next wave of innovation.

Partnerships
Open Banking and BaaS remained the backbone of partnership activity. Holvi teamed up with Azets, Enable Banking partnered with A-Tono, and Tink made two international moves with SplitWise and Coinbase. In Sweden, Bits Technology expanded its compliance ecosystem through partnerships with Leslie and Fondo. Klarna continued its AI journey with Google, despite the ongoing EUR 8 billion court case between the two in Sweden.

Banks
Strategic collaborations continued to push the region forward. In Finland, Alisa Bank and Nordea joined forces to offer invoice financing for entrepreneurs. Nordea also announced Bitcoin ETP access for its customers, while Alisa Bank sold part of its consumer loan portfolio to Bankaktiebolaget Nordiska. In Denmark, Sydbank, Arbejdernes Landsbank, and Vestjysk Bank moved ahead with plans for a three-way merger.
