January in brief
Let’s unwrap what happened in fintech and finance in the Nordics in January. You may also want to check out our podcast with Fintech Daydreaming, where we dive deep into a few specific monthly topics.
Funding
The number of funding rounds increased compared to the previous month and last January, although the round sizes remain mostly smaller.
AlphaSense, the first Finnish fintech unicorn, raised an undisclosed Series E round.
Nordic challenger banks continue to attract investments, and this time it was the Danish SME-focused bank kompasbank’s turn.
Partnerships
Nordic fintech companies continued to forge partnerships, this time extending beyond Northern Europe, unlike in December.
In terms of partnerships, Danish companies, particularly ZTLment, made a strong start to the year.
Biometrics remains a strong trend, particularly in the world of payment cards.
Banks
Danske Bank announced two new tech partnerships.
SEB, which has been strong in fintech partners, has announced a strategic partnership and investment in the digital mail service provider Kivra.
In Finland, OP Financial Group entered into a cooperation with WWF to promote biodiversity.
